Week 10 #23 Grand Finale
The 23 things was great. I was able to learn about many things I didn't know about. I had heard of mostly everything, but I didn't know much about it. My favorite exercise was the flickr and photo editing. I was somewhat familiar with flickr, but I was able to learn much more. I didn't know anything about the mashups. I think by doing these exercises it showed that we never stop learning. With technology changing all the time this was a great way learn about it. I was really surprised by the number of blogs that are out there. I also enjoyed listening to the different podcasts. I couldn't believe how many podcasts are out there. As far as helping our customer's I think this a great exercise for them to do. I also liked the Zoho program that we learned about because I think it will help our customers a great deal. Overall, this program was great and I hope that we get to learn many other things.

Week 9 #22
I have been using Overdrive since we first obtained access to it. I really enjoy the Overdrive software. The only thing that I wish for is more audio books to be available. There is a great selection on there, but there's many more that I would like to be on there. Otherwise I recommend this to everyone that listens to audio books.
Week 9 #21 Podcast
I went through the different podcasts and found a few interesting things. After some difficulty I was able to send the rss feed to my bloglines. It has been a while since I used the rss feeds and it had slipped my mind, but working with it a little I was able to get it. I found a great podcast about insider Orlando. It talks about the many attractions of Orlando, for example Disney World, Universal Studios, and many more. This is a good podcast for those planning next years summer vacation.

This exercise was alot of fun! It was easy to do and enjoyable. But just like anything you do on the internet you have to be careful, because some things are inappropriate. Youtube was very easy to navigate and I was able to find many things that was interested in. This is one site I could spend most of the day looking through it.

week 8 #19 Zoho
Zoho writer is a great program for those that cannot afford to purchase the expensive Microsoft office programs. There are many kids that come to the library prepared to finish their work, but because of the library becoming busier and busier that's not always the case. Many times the kids don't bring disk and sometimes when they do the disks are damaged. The Zoho writer is a great way for them to save there work and print it later if necessary. This program will be a great for the library.
week 8 #18
I created a myspace account some time ago and I really like it. I was able to get in contact with friends from high school that I hadn't seen in a long time. I also am able to keep in touch with a friend that lives in Chicago. Even though we haven't seen each other in 7 years, we are to send pictures of our families to each other. I think this is a great way to keep communication between many old friends. The one the thing I don't like about myspace is that there is alot things that the teens put on there pages that are inappropriate. Myspace is supposed to block somethings, but they do miss a alot things.

Week 7 #17 Technology
Now it seems that we can anything with just the push of a button. Everything is on the internet. I am the type of person that would boxes and boxes full of photos, but now with all this new technology I don't have to worry about that. I created a flickr account some time ago and I have filled it with photos. Since getting a digital camera I have been storing cd as well. This helps because sometimes I don't want all the pictures printed and can always go back and look at them. I now know how to use Windows Movie Maker and have made several video picture shows of my kids photos. It's great because you can add music and different graphics. This is a program that comes free with Windows XP and Windows Vista. I know there's better programs out there but some are quite expensive and I am happy with the results of Movie Maker.
week 7 #16 Wikki's
I searched the different links that were provided for us. I liked the way they were set up. My favorite was the SJCPL because it had so many different subjects. It not only included books but also different websites that provide customer's with information. I was glad to see that they had a link for local scholarships, so are usually hard to find. I think that its a great resource for people looking for information. I also was able to add my blog to the favorite blogs page with much ease. This was a simple very informative exercise.

week 6 #15
As one of the articles said "Libraries are not just collections of documents and books" we now have computers and other services that are offer. With every year bringing us new technology our customer's or patrons change. We have customer's asking us different types of questions. We not only get the question "Where is the resume books?" Now we have the questions "How do I email or post my resume?" This information is great because it helps some of us that aren't used to using these types of tools to help customers. Our customer's now and days come in and usually learn something new about the different technology that we offer.
Week 6 #14
Technorati is a great way to search through the blogs. I was able to look through different blogs and videos. Some were very entertaining. I did the search for "learning 2.0" and for every box that you put it in you get a different result. There are many ways to look up things and I really enjoyed looking through technorati again.

week 6 delicious
I wasn't able to view the tutorial for delicious, but I did go through the site and looked at the different website. I liked the fact that they bookmarked many of the fun sites as well as the informative sites. There were many sites to create avatars as well as other things. I don't have a delicious account but I would definitely consider getting one. I think this site would be great for students because, if there doing a big project they can set up there links and access them from anywhere. This a a great site!!!

Week 5 "12" Library Elf
I was never able to get into the Library Elf site. I did speak to some of the people that were able to use it and it seemed to ask for too much personal information. They wanted a library card number as well as a pin number. So this is probably something that would not have used.

week 5 LibraryThing
I am not a big reader. I personally like to listen to books. It was fairly easy to create a login and I was able to add a couple books pretty quickly. This is not one of the tools that I would probably use to frequently.
Week 5 avatar
I created an avatar through yahoo and through meez. They were both pretty simple, but the meez was much easier to post. Meez also had many more choices of the things you can put on your avatar. I also used FD Toys to create a frame for one of my pictures. I placed my photo into my flickr account. This was very fun and easy to do.

Finding the RSs feeds
I checked a couple of website to see if I could find the RSS feed, but I didn't know what I was looking for. Today I tried the website provided and it was just as easy as setting up a bloglines account. I searched through all 4 site: Feedster, Topix, Syndic8, and technorati and the think the best one was Feedster. It very simple to set and I know have a couple things that go to my blogline.
Week 4 Rss Feed
I created a bloglines account yesterday and it was very simple. I just chose a topic from the list they provided. It was pretty much step by step on screen. This has probably been one the easiest exercises I have done.

Online safety
Many people feel that they are safe online. That is not the case. I know people that have met people online and it they turned out to be ok. In another instance I have a friend who met someone online and they turned out to be the worst person in the world. The point is you never know who your going to meet and if you place your information out there, there's no telling what kind of people you will encounter. I don't mind putting pictures of my family online, but I'm not going to give address, phone number, or anything else that might tell you where to find them. Placing pictures or videos online is a great way for family and friends who are not close by to keep in touch. Just be careful!
Learning styles
I am a visual learner... I can memorize alot of the things that I see. I also like to play on the computer alot and have taught myself how to use some programs just by playing around. I have a hard time listening to instructions and doing them. Most of the time someone needs to show before I can do it on my own...
The Beginning
This is the first time I use a blog. I have never used them even though I have a myspace account and flickr as well as others. I really don't like to IM or even text on the cell phone. Personally I prefer to talk the person. Hopefully this exercise will change my mind. Another problem I have with blogging is I just don't have time. As you see I am a mother of two and they are a wild pair. I have a daughter 6 years old and a son that's 2. I have my hands full all the time. Hopefully this won't be the last time I use a blog.....
